The wrong tree drops litter into the water and clogs the skimmer every week; the right one is placed against the actual afternoon sun angle and keeps the deck usable in July. Species selection is a maintenance decision
Every poolside plant is a choice about how often you clean the skimmer. Fine-leaf and heavy-shedding species look great in a rendering and become a weekly chore in reality.
We select for low litter, non-invasive roots that will not lift the deck, and salt and chlorine tolerance for anything within splash range — then design for how it looks in five years, not on install day.
Shade is the difference between a pool and a used pool
A Phoenix backyard without real shade is unusable from roughly 2pm to 6pm for half the year, which is exactly when people want to be outside. Ramadas, pergolas, and correctly placed trees are what recover those hours.
Placement is decided against the west sun angle on your specific lot. Shade that is beautiful and in the wrong place does nothing at 4pm in July.
