Rock and decomposed granite price by depth, area, and access. The material itself is the smaller part of the cost. What drives the number is how much existing material has to come out, whether a truck can reach the area or the rock has to be wheelbarrowed through a side gate, the depth of coverage, and the weed-suppression detail underneath. Boulders price individually by size and by the equipment needed to set them. Specialty and color-matched rock costs more than standard local product.

Decomposed granite (DG) is the most popular and economical choice, available in gold, tan, and brown tones. Desert Gold and Apache Brown are local favorites. For accent areas, river rock, Arizona Rainbow, and Mexican Beach Pebbles offer variety. We match rock colors to your home's architecture.

Rock landscapes require minimal but not zero maintenance. Annual tasks include adding DG to thin areas, removing debris, controlling weeds (fabric helps but isn't foolproof), and refreshing borders. Compared to lawn care, rock maintenance takes about 90% less time and water.

Proper weed prevention includes quality landscape fabric, adequate rock depth (2-3 inches minimum), and pre-emergent applications in spring and fall. Fabric alone isn't sufficient: wind-blown seeds germinate on top of fabric. We design installations with multiple weed defense layers.

Light-colored rock reflects more heat and stays cooler than dark materials. Decomposed granite in gold and tan tones is comfortable for walking even in summer. Strategic boulder placement and shade from plants help moderate temperatures. We avoid black or dark rocks in high-traffic areas.
